THE GIANTS CAUSEWAY

(Main Section)

Near Bushmills Town, Co Antrim.

Many little patches like this one make-up the causway, had the tide been in it would have been half covered by the Atlantic Ocean, as you can see by the blackish stones.

Thanks to the guy in the photo for giving everyone an idea of the stones dimensions.

There are around 40,000 Pillars and are mostly Hexagonal but there a are a few with three, four and seven sides. Each pillar is made-up of horizontal segments which of coarse alter the size of each pillar should they loose their segments, this creates the fascinating steps effect throughout the Causeway. Many loose segments lie around the area..Yes they would make a lovely garden padio!

Names have be given to some groups of the pillars such as : Wishing Well, Wishing Chair,Chimney Pots, Honeycomb. The Giants Organ is another one and is the most spectular of them all as you will soon see in another page in this section.
